Where is the Büchel nuclear base?

"Fliegerhorst Büchel" is about 1 km west of the town of Büchel in the borough of Cochem-Zell in Rheinland-Pfalz (Eifel).

How do I get to Büchel?

on the bus, by train, by car, with a bike, etc.

By car, van or coach          

Take the Autobahn A 48 from Koblenz in the direction of Trier. Leave the motorway at the exit for Ulmen in the direction for Cochem-Fliegerhorst. Then follow the signs for Fliegerhorst (airbase).

Public Transport (Bus & Rail):

Take the train to Cochem on the Koblenz-Trier line. The bus no. 500 leaves from Cochem station in the direction Ulmen-Daun-Gerolstein. The bus departs hourly, except on bank holidays (see timetable). According to bus company, the busses are accessible for wheelchairs. Get out at the bus stop marked "Büchel Fliegerhorst". The way to the main gate from the bus stop is signposted.

With a bicycle:

It is possible to take a bicycle on the bus from Cochem to the airbase. Every second bus has a trailer for bicycles.

Or alternatively: The transregio train from Andernach to Kaisersesch goes every hour and bicycles can be taken on the train. Take a right outside the station up the hill, just beyond the “Schönen Aussicht” take a left in the direction of Kloster (cloister) Maria Martental. pass the cloister on your right-hand side and ride down into the valley. When the road rises, take a right in the direction of Ulmen to the airbase.


Coming from The Netherlands?

On Friday morning August 9th (Nagasaki Day) a bus will go to the nuclear weapons base at Volkel in The Netherlands and then continue on to the nuclear weapon base at Büchel. It costs € 35, - for the round trip + € 11, - per person per day for camping site and meals. Bring your own: tent, sleeping-mat, sleeping-bag, musical instrument.

Where can I stay?

Camp, Hostel, Hotels, etc.

Druing the 24 hour blockade on August 11 and 12 many people will sleep directly at the gates of the airbase. Please bring the appropriate gear with you. We will provide food and drink.

Camp

From August 5th onwards there will be a camp near the main gate. You can camp here using your own tent. Please let us know you are coming buechel[at]atomwaffenfrei.de.

Jugendherberge Cochem (Youth Hostel)

We have booked several rooms with multiple beds that you are welcome to book. Beds are available from Friday August 9th to Monday August 12th for 21.50 € per night including breakfast.
